To meet Star's demanding criteria for the density, agility and efficiency of their 3rd data centre they engaged leading technology providers and together, have paved the way for future data centre design.
Integrated Flywheel UPS
A containerised, integrated flywheel UPS and generator provides the cornerstone of a resilient, scalable power strategy while maximising efficiencies and minimising environmental impact. The UPS and diesel generator solution are sourced from a single strategic partner and allow rapid up-scaling in line with the resilient power needs of the facility.
Double Density Racks
The server racks in Star Data Centre 3 will house around twice the industry average of servers due to substantially higher provision of power and advanced cooling technologies. These specially designed server racks and movable partition walls will allow Star to redeploy data centre space as requirements change.
Cooling
To address the cooling problems associated with such a high density of servers we have attached a bespoke cabling system from Connectix to the tops of the racks rather than in the floor cavity, improving the efficiency of cooled air flow and making use of ambient air temperatures for free cooling. Chilled water will also be pumped around the data halls to assist with the cooling of the hotter, more densely packed hardware.
Security
With security as a fundamental factor in any data centre facility Star have deployed state-of-the art surveillance equipment including 360o IR CCTV, number plate recognition, zoned security and intelligent key safes to allow un-manned colocation visits. Managed hosting and NetStarIP customers can take advantage of high availability virtualised firewall technology from Juniper Netscreen; industry leaders in advanced security features.
